Faro, in Portugal, is the international airport for Ayamonte. It is about 70 km away, roughly 55 minutes by road, using the A-22 and the international bridge over the Guadiana. Spain and Portugal are both in the Schengen area, so the crossing is not normally a border stop.

Road distances and typical driving times from route planners, September 2026; the town hall’s own tourist guide gives approximately 65 km to Faro and 150 km to Seville. Journey times depend on traffic and route.

There is also a ferry across the Guadiana between Ayamonte and Vila Real de Santo António. The crossing takes around fifteen minutes and carries foot passengers, bicycles, motorcycles and cars; the municipal bulletin of May 2026 lists fares including €7 for a car and €4.70 for a motorcycle. It runs year-round, with departures roughly hourly in winter and a longer service day in summer.

Timetables change through the year and sailings can be affected by weather or operational conditions, so check the current schedule before travelling.

Faro is served by 34 airlines flying to 91 airports, with Ryanair, easyJet and Jet2 operating most flights and around 840 departures a week. London Gatwick, Dublin and Manchester are the busiest routes. (Source: FlightConnections (opens in a new tab), September 2026.)

Direct services relevant to northern Europe include Amsterdam (Transavia), Brussels (Brussels Airlines, Transavia, TUI fly), Dublin (Ryanair, Aer Lingus), Copenhagen (Norwegian, Ryanair, SAS), Stockholm and Oslo (Norwegian, SAS), Helsinki (Finnair) and Riga (airBaltic). There is no direct service from Tallinn.

Airline schedules change with the season and from year to year. Several of these routes run in summer only or at reduced frequency in winter, so check the airline’s own timetable for your dates.

Seville is the second gateway, with 88 destinations operated by 34 airlines including Amsterdam, Berlin, Brussels, Dublin, London, Manchester, Paris, Frankfurt, Munich, Milan, Rome, Warsaw and Zurich. (Source: Aena (opens in a new tab).)
